Málaga is the door. Andalucía is behind it.
Which Caminito del Rey ticket includes the bus back. Whether the Alhambra is worth six hours in a coach seat. Where the tapas walk actually stops. Every day out you can book here, rated by the travellers who took it.
Caminito, Alcazaba, Ronda: the days Málaga runs out of.
A gorge walkway an hour inland, a Moorish fortress ten minutes up from the cathedral, and a white town on a cliff edge. These fill first, and everything else on a Málaga week is planned around them.
Málaga’s biggest day out is bolted to a cliff.
All Caminito trips →
Three kilometres of boardwalk bolted to the wall of the Gaitanes gorge, 100 metres above the river, one way only, north to south. Entry is timed and capped, so the choice is not whether to go — it is which transfer gets you to the right end of it.

The gorge, then tapas in a white village
Walkway in the morning while the shade still holds on the west wall, then down to Ardales or El Chorro for a long table and a plate of local goat cheese.
From the Alameda, everything is a day trip.
The coaches leave from one boulevard, and inside three hours you can be at the Alhambra, on the Rock, in a white town, or on another continent. Distances, in the order they leave.

A Roman theatre, a Moorish fortress and a cathedral with one finished tower stack up in four streets. Add the Picasso, the market hall and a lookout castle above the lot, and the city that gets treated as an airport becomes the best half-day of the trip.

Málaga eats late, and drinks its wine sweet.
Dinner starts at nine and the local wine is the opposite of what you expect: dark, sweet Pedro Ximénez and Moscatel poured from barrels in bars older than the guidebooks. Espeto sardines on the beach, boquerones in the old town, and a tablao off Calle Larios when the plates are cleared.
Málaga looks better with the lighthouse behind you.
The city reads differently from a mile offshore: Gibralfaro on its hill, the cathedral tower, La Malagueta’s beach curve and the Sierra behind all of it. Catamarans go out for the sunset; the kayaks go east to the cliffs at Maro, where the caves and the waterfall are.

Every tour on the site sorted by what it actually charges. The cheapest thing here costs less than a beachfront lunch.

Three days that exist only in Málaga province.
Tapas walks and museum tickets are everywhere in Spain. A boardwalk bolted to a gorge wall, a bathhouse under the old town, and a hillside of limestone that used to be a seabed are not.

The King’s Little Path
The original 1905 walkway was a maintenance path for a hydroelectric scheme, and by the 1990s it had lost most of its floor. Five people died on it before the province closed it and rebuilt it in timber and steel above the old concrete. It runs one way only, north to south, on a timed ticket, and finishes with a glass floor and a footbridge over the gorge.

The Moorish Bathhouse
Málaga’s hammam sits in a vaulted basement a few doors from the Roman theatre and follows the old order: cold room, warm room, hot room, then a marble slab and a scrub. Sessions run to a strict clock, swimwear is compulsory, and the massage slots go before the bath slots do — book the two together or you will be offered a bath at 11pm.

El Torcal’s Stone City
An hour north of the coast, an entire mountain of Jurassic limestone has weathered into stacked discs that look machined. It was a seabed 150 million years ago, ammonites are still in the rock, and the dolmens down in Antequera are older than Stonehenge. Take a fleece: it is ten degrees colder up there than on the beach.

Book these before you land in Málaga.
Most of this coast can be arranged from a sun lounger the day before. These four cannot — they run on timed capacity, ticket releases and a land border that still checks documents.
- 01Granada Full-Day Trip with AlhambraThe Nasrid Palaces admit a fixed number per half-hour and sell out weeks ahead in season. No Nasrid slot, no palaces — the rest of the Alhambra is a garden.
- 02Caminito del Rey Day Trip & Guided TourEntry to the walkway is timed and capped daily. Coach trips buy their slots in blocks, so the good morning departures go long before the walk-up window does.
- 03Gibraltar TourIt is an international land border. Everyone on the coach needs a passport, and the queue at La Línea can add an hour in each direction.
- 04Tangier, Morocco Day Trip from Costa del SolA ferry, a passport and a different country. Departures run to a boat timetable, not a coach one, and the day starts before dawn.
In a Málaga August, the afternoon is not yours.
Between two and six the old town empties for a reason, and the gorge and the white villages have no shade to offer. The local answer is not to fight it: walk at nine, get underground or under a vault at two, and let the coast cool down before dinner. The sea caves at Nerja sit at a constant nineteen degrees all summer.
